Femena Congratulates the Syrian People on Their Long-Awaited Achievement of Reclaiming Their Freedoms Following the Collapse of the Regime after 53 years of Dictatorship.
This significant moment, brought about by the complex dynamics involving Turkey-backed groups such as Al-Nusra and Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), marks the dawn of a new era, born from the courage, resilience, and unwavering commitment of millions of Syrians who have long yearned for justice, dignity, rights and democracy.
As the country navigates this fragile transition, Femena urges all parties to prioritize the safety and protection of civilians. The chaos and uncertainty of such a moment must not result in further suffering or violence. We call for calm and restraint and emphasize the need to respect Syria’s ethnic and religious diversity and uphold the human rights of all Syrians irrespective of their ethnic and sectarian affiliations and especially the rights of women and girls, whose safety remains particularly at risk during times of crisis and transition.
Looking forward, Syria’s future depends on an inclusive and transparent political process that represents the aspirations and diversity of its people. Femena highlights the essential role of women and civil society in shaping this process, ensuring it is rooted in accountability, justice, equality, and democracy.
Femena honors and acknowledges the great sacrifices of so many Syrians, in the path toward a democratic and just Syria, including those who were imprisoned, forcibly disappeared and killed. We stand in solidarity with all Syrians, supporting their journey toward lasting peace, reconciliation, and the realization of human rights for all.
