Peacebuilding and Striving for Equality amid Systemic Violence and Hate Campaigns against Yemeni WHRDs

Qobol Al Absi, a women human rights defender and president of the Qatar Foundation for Media and Development, is also a founding member of the “Wojood” Community Initiative for refugees and a researcher with expertise in migration and asylum issues in Yemen.

In an interview with Femena, Al Absi discusses the challenges faced by women’s rights activists, including the violence they encounter both online and offline, and the impact of hate and defamation campaigns within traditional Yemeni society. She also highlights the significant contributions of Yemeni women human rights defenders (WHRDs), who have played a pivotal role in fostering peace and facilitating the release of prisoners amid the country’s ongoing challenges. Al Absi urges international organizations to establish dedicated programs for the protection and support of Yemeni WHRDs, emphasizing that such initiatives are essential for ensuring their safety and enabling their continued efforts.
