Femena condemns in the strongest possible terms the continued targeting and killing of journalists by Israel in Lebanon and Gaza. On April 8, Israel killed three journalists, including Ghada al Daikh and Suzanne Khalil in Lebanon and Mohammed Wishah in Gaza. Three other journalists were also killed in southern Lebanon in March 2026.
These killings are part of a longstanding pattern that has intensified since the start of Israel’s war on Gaza in October 2023. This pattern appears aimed at restricting the flow of information and limiting international awareness of the atrocities being carried out in the ongoing assaults on Lebanon and Gaza. According to the Committee to Protect Journalists, approximately 249 journalists and media workers have been killed by Israel since October 7, 2023.
Human rights organizations have repeatedly emphasized that the targeting of journalists constitutes a violation of international law and may amount to an international crime. Despite this, Israel—responsible for the highest number of journalist killings in recent conflicts—continues to target and kill journalists with apparent impunity.
Journalists are civilians protected under international humanitarian law, and targeting them represents a serious violation of these protections, as well as an assault on freedom of expression and the public’s right to information. The normalization of such violence fosters a climate of impunity and silences critical voices, particularly those documenting conflict, human suffering, and human rights violations.
Femena calls for an immediate, independent, and transparent international investigation into these killings, accountability for all perpetrators, and urgent measures to ensure the protection of journalists—especially women journalists—in conflict zones.
