Grassroots Civil Society in Afghanistan


Following the return of the Taliban to power, formal civil society structures collapsed rapidly as their executives and civil society leaders were forced out of the country. However, in response to the oppression of the Taliban grassroots, civil society movements and women-led groups have formed and are tirelessly advocating for the human rights of Afghans despite challenging and hostile conditions. In this conversation, activists from inside Afghanistan discuss their work and the challenges they face, and stakeholders in the international community join the conversation to identify opportunities and areas of support.
